Electra and Rock Tech Lithium Forge Lithium Recycling Partnership for North America

Electra Battery Materials Corporation (NASDAQ: ELBM; TSX-V: ELBM) and Rock Tech Lithium (TSX-V: RCK.V) have announced a memorandum of understanding to create a sustainable lithium recycling solution for North America. This partnership aims to supply recycled lithium from Electra’s Ontario operations to Rock Tech’s refineries for upgrading to battery-grade lithium chemicals.

Electra’s CEO, Trent Mell, stated that this collaboration with Rock Tech, a leader in lithium development, enhances their recycling strategy and offers a complete closed-loop service for lithium-ion battery scrap and end-of-life batteries. Klaus Schmitz, Rock Tech’s COO, emphasized the importance of developing localized circular lithium value chains, with Electra being a key partner in this vision.

Details of the Lithium Recycling Agreement

Electra will provide lithium from its black mass refinery to Rock Tech for further processing into battery-grade lithium chemicals. This step is crucial for the lithium to meet the quality standards for new battery production. The initial phase of material processing is set to begin in 2026, with supply expected to grow as Electra expands its battery materials park.

Future Collaborative Opportunities

Both companies are exploring further collaboration, including potential licensing of Electra’s technology in Europe and co-locating future battery recycling and lithium refining plants.
