Standard Lithium’s DLE Process: A North American Success

Standard Lithium Ltd. (SLI) has announced impressive results from its Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) process at the Demonstration Plant in El Dorado, Arkansas. The Plant, a pioneer in large-scale DLE operations in North America, has processed over 15 million gallons of Smackover brine since its commissioning in May 2020, operating continuously except for scheduled upgrades and supply interruptions.

The Plant’s success is a testament to the LiPRO LSS (DLE) technology, developed with Koch Technology Solutions (KTS), and its integration into Standard Lithium’s flowsheet. This collaboration is detailed in the Definitive Feasibility Study for Phase 1A and the Preliminary Feasibility Study for South West Arkansas.

Key Technical Achievements

The Demonstration Plant’s long-term operation has been vital in understanding the dynamics of continuous commercial-scale operations. Dr. Andy Robinson, President of Standard Lithium, highlights the importance of this extended testing period, which has led to a smoother transition towards commercial production. The Plant’s performance has surpassed expectations, proving the DLE technology’s effectiveness for scaling up.
