Anson Resources Ltd (ASX:ASN) has received final approval from the State of Utah’s Department of Natural Resources to extract lithium at its Green River Lithium Project.
Approval for Brine Usage
The company filed the application through its subsidiary, Blackstone Minerals NV LLC, in July 2023. The state engineer granted initial approval in May 2024. Now, the rights to extract water (brine) for lithium have been confirmed post-reconsideration.
Eco-Friendly Extraction Process
Anson Resources plans to use 19 cubic feet per second of brine, processing it non-consumptively. After extraction, the brine returns to its original geological formation, with the process recognized as environmentally friendly compared to evaporation ponds.
Community and Regulatory Engagement
The CEO, Bruce Richardson, highlighted Anson’s commitment to complying with government regulations and fostering community connections. He notes, “This is the first approval for lithium processing using our method in Utah and signifies progress in our permitting process.”
Ongoing Development at Green River
The Green River Lithium Project is advancing rapidly, with location plans for extraction wells on private land purchased by Anson. A recent technical report for a return well was approved, supporting the project’s ongoing development.
