**NEWS: Chile’s Altoandinos Lithium Project**
Rio Tinto (RIO), Eramet (ERA), and BYD are among six companies selected by Chile’s state-run mining company, Enami, to develop the lithium project in the Altoandinos salt flats. These companies have met the criteria and are set to negotiate a public-private partnership for operations in Chile’s Atacama region.
The selected companies include CNGR Advanced Material Co. Ltd and POSCO Holdings Inc. Enami announced the shortlist after an initial interest from twelve companies in May. The aim is to increase lithium production in partnership with the state, setting the pace for the government’s strategy to boost production by 70% in a decade.
Enami’s chief, Ivan Mlynarz, emphasized the significance of these selections for the National Lithium Strategy. The Salares Altoandinos spans 100 square miles and has projections to produce 20,000 metric tons by 2032 and triple by 2037.
In a recent development, Enami released results from a $10.5 million drilling campaign. Brine samples at the Aguilar flat presented an average of 740 mg/L of lithium concentration.
