EnerSys Wins $199 Million Award for Lithium-Ion Gigafactory in SC

EnerSys (ENS), the global leader in stored energy solutions, has been awarded a $199 million negotiation from the U.S. Department of Energy. This funding supports the development of a cutting-edge lithium-ion cell production facility in Greenville, SC.

EnerSys Plans $615 Million Gigafactory Investment

EnerSys plans to invest approximately $615 million to develop this 500,000 square foot facility over four years. The company is also allocating $50 million for a specialized production line for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Job Creation and Production Capacity

The new facility could generate up to 500 high-quality jobs and will have an initial production capacity of 5 gigawatt hours per year. EnerSys aims to begin construction in 2025, with commercial operations starting in 2028.

Strategic Partnerships and Incentives

EnerSys is leveraging its strategic partnership with Verkor SAS to enhance electrode manufacturing and cell production capabilities. Additionally, the company has secured a $200 million incentive package from South Carolina and Greenville County.
