OQ Chemicals (OQC) has introduced Oxvolt S221, a new co-solvent for water-based coatings used in lithium-ion batteries. This innovative product caters specifically to the automotive industry’s need for durable and eco-friendly battery solutions for e-mobility.
Oxvolt S221 is ideal for high-energy graphite anodes, enhancing processing by acting as a film-forming agent. It not only ensures even coating of the graphite but also minimizes production failures compared to conventional methods. The product reduces slurry viscosity, easing processing, and improves electrode quality during coating and initial drying phases.
Oxvolt S221, which is biodegradable and non-toxic, offers similar benefits to N-methylpyrrolidone. As a water-soluble co-solvent, it evaporates completely in the drying process, maintaining electrode efficiency. In a pilot test at CustomCells in Itzehoe, the use of Oxvolt S221 showed increased efficiency in graphite anode production without compromising electrical properties or battery lifespan after extensive testing.
Oxvolt S221 for LFP Cathodes
The co-solvent also enhances the processability of LFP cathodes, supporting the development of high-performance, environmentally friendly batteries for electric vehicles.
