E3 Lithium and Pure Lithium Develop Lithium Metal Batteries in Alberta

E3 Lithium (TSXV: ETL) and Pure Lithium have signed a joint development agreement to innovate lithium metal batteries in Alberta. This collaboration aims to advance lithium metal anode and battery technology. The companies plan to build a pilot plant, leveraging E3’s lithium brines and Pure Lithium’s Brine to Battery™ technology. This streamlined process could transform the battery manufacturing landscape.

E3 and Pure Lithium have been working since 2022, using E3’s lithium concentrate to develop high-energy-density lithium metal cells, free of nickel, cobalt, or graphite. Over the next year, they will complete a techno-economic model and scale-up efforts, creating a facility for producing lithium metal anodes near Calgary.

The pilot aims to produce 200kg of lithium metal anodes for vanadium rechargeable batteries. Upon successful completion, the world’s first vertically integrated lithium metal battery technology could emerge.

Chris Doornbos, President and CEO of E3, emphasized the significance of integrating E3’s DLE flow sheet with Pure Lithium’s technology in delivering cost-efficient, sustainable batteries.

Emilie Bodoin, Founder and CEO of Pure Lithium, highlighted the importance of securing lithium supply with trusted partners. Using E3’s concentrate reduces production costs and enhances battery performance, propelling the project forward.
