Giyani Metals Corp. (TSXV:EMM, GR:A2DUU8), the developer of the K.Hill Battery-Grade Manganese Project in Botswana, has announced an update on the construction of the Demonstration Plant (Demo Plant).
Demo Plant Construction Progress
Significant construction progress was made in July. The company installed five additional modular process skids (Process Modules), bringing the total to seven out of nine. These new modules include purification circuits, a reagent make-up system, a filtration Process Module, and water treatment and storage.
Instrumentation and Electrical Installation
The installation of the instrumentation, electrical cabling, and piping works for the Crystallizer Unit and internal Crystallizer Process Module has started and is nearing completion. This detailed work will extend to other Process Modules sequentially.
Ventilation and Utility Systems
The ventilation system installation is complete, ensuring a safe operating environment within the plant. Additionally, the main reticulation for the utility steam system has been installed and successfully pressure tested.
Civil Works and Waste Storage System
Civil works for the external waste storage tank system are ongoing. This system will collect process discharge and waste streams for analysis, aiding in the design and cost optimization of the water recovery system for the commercial plant.
Simulation Test Work
Simulation test work is progressing on the Yokogawa Distributed Control System (DCS) software, which will control the Demo Plant. This software allows for continuous process flow, which is crucial for understanding how the Commercial Plant will respond before construction.
Project Timeline
The Project remains on track to begin commissioning and producing battery-grade manganese in Q4 2024 for off-taker testing and qualification.
Leadership Insight
Danny Keating, President and CEO, expressed his excitement about the Demo Plant’s progress. He emphasized the importance of the Plant’s ability to operate continuously at a pre-commercial scale for understanding and optimizing the Commercial Plant.
Summary of Construction Stages
The construction involves several stages:
C1 – Mechanical Completion
C2 – Dry testing, direction testing, loop testing
C3 – Cold/Water Commissioning, software testing
C4 – Hot Commissioning with reagents and steam
C5 – Production Ramp-up
