New Age Metals Begins Summer Lithium Exploration Program

New Age Metals (TSX.V: NAM; OTCQB: NMTLF; FSE: P7J.F) has announced the commencement of summer field work on the Winnipeg River-Cat Lake Lithium Projects in Southeast Manitoba. This program aligns with a research collaboration involving the University of New Brunswick, University of British Columbia, and the Manitoba Geological Survey.

Summer Exploration Goals

The field work, budgeted at ~$450,000 until April 2025, will combine efforts from New Age Metals geologists and academic researchers. The objective is to follow-up on high-priority target areas identified from the company’s large geophysical dataset and geological and geochemical data. This program aims to narrow down zones for lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) type pegmatites requiring further evaluation.

Support for Academic Research

New Age Metals supports a Mitacs grant awarded in 2023, partnering with Dr. Chris McFarlane (University of New Brunswick) and Dr. Lee Groat (University of British Columbia). The research seeks to understand the origin and emplacement mechanisms of rare-element pegmatites in the Cat Lake-Winnipeg River field, supporting a MSc student and a postdoctoral fellow.

New Grant Announcement

On June 17th, 2024, alongside the University of Manitoba, a $1.5 million grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) was announced. The focus is on sustainable mineral extraction methods. New Age Metals and Grid Metals Corp. will leverage the funding to explore critical metals extraction while engaging Indigenous communities.

Field Work Update

Geologists from New Age Metals mobilized to the project site on July 7th, 2024. The field work includes detailed observations and sampling of various pegmatites and related intrusions. Traverses are prioritized based on main LCT pegmatite showings, pegmatitic granites, geophysical trends, and historic mineral occurrences.

About the Research Project

The MSc thesis field work, initiated in summer 2023, focused on the Tappy, Eagle, and F.D. No. 5 pegmatites. Analytical work on collected samples is ongoing. The Postdoctoral Fellow began summer field work in June 2024, targeting various units in the Bird River domain. The Manitoba Geological Survey supports this work, aiming to update regional geology maps and structural trends in the Bird River domain.
